At only 4 years old, Mihaela Axenti was suffering from heart failure, and the doctors in the country did not give her much chance of survival. Little Mihaela was rescued in Turkey by doctors of Emsey Hospital. The child underwent a very complicated operation. The third operation in the world for a baby only 4 years old.

An artificial heart is a device that replaces the heart. Artificial hearts are typically used to bridge the time to heart transplantation or to permanently replace the heart in the case that a heart transplant is impossible.
