Israeli doctors performed a successful fully artificial cornea transplant. The CorNeat KPro implant, developed by the Israeli company CorNeat Vision, consists of a material similar in structure to the extracellular matrix, and is fixed in a pocket between the conjunctiva and the sclera of the eye. The first owner of CorNeat KPro was a 78-year-old man who lost his sight ten years ago: after a period of rehabilitation, he was able to see people and read the text. In the near future, the operation is planned for nine more patients.
This event confirms that technology plays a huge role in medicine and the quality of human life.
