3D Imaging Surgery For Prostate Cancer

3D Imaging Surgery For Prostate Cancer

The signs of prostate cancer, which are progressing and can be seen in men over 65 years of age, are uncertain whether they are early stages or not, are
an insidious type of cancer. Urology Specialist Assoc. Serdar Aykan told about the surgeries performed...

Assoc. Dr. Serdar Aykan said, "We can see 8-10 times larger than what we see with the camera system, we can inflate the patient's abdomen with gas, enter the skin from 5 places with our instruments, and evaluate all the organs in the abdomen, and perform the procedure of removing the prostate in a nerve-sparing manner."

He added: “After removing the prostate, the procedure of reconnecting the urinary bladder to the canal can also be performed quite successfully in laparoscopy compared to open surgery. The third is the technically applicable robot-assisted closed laparoscopic prostate surgeries. The biggest advantage of this is 3D imaging, and with its advantage, we perform radical prostatectomy surgery as nerve sparing together with robotic surgery. If the prostate cancer has gone out of the localized situation and is considered as metastasis, the patient is evaluated and treated in a multidisciplinary manner together with the urology, oncology, radiation oncology departments.

 Assoc. Dr. Serdar Aykan; said the following about the advantages and disadvantages of the applicable surgical techniques and the differences between them;

“Closed radical prostatectomy has great advantages. If we list the advantages, there are many advantages such as less blood loss, shorter postoperative catheter time, faster return to normal life, and less pain for the patient. For this reason, closed radical prostatectomy surgeries are preferred more by both physicians and patients.

Aykan continued as follows;

“If we compare laparoscopic and robotic surgery, they are very similar technically. Both have their own advantages and disadvantages. The biggest advantage of laparoscopy is tactile stimulation, that is, the physician can directly touch the tissue with the instrument and feel its hardness and perform laparoscopic surgery. The second biggest advantage is that its cost is lower than robotic surgery. One of the biggest advantages of robotic radical prostatectomy is 3D imaging. The surgeon operates in a very comfortable way. The downside is the cost. The functional and oncological results are the same in both surgeries.
